College Counseling

To prepare for college, there is no substitute for getting a solid and broad academic education. This means students should take challenging courses in academic subjects and work hard to maintain good grades. To assist students to achieve these desired goals, Bethlehem Catholic has two college counselors that are provided by the Intermediate Unit #20 to work with juniors and seniors.

The college counseling staff consists of:

Counselors for Juniors and Seniors
Ms. Paula Staples: Last name A to L –
Ms. Annette Zettlemoyer: Last Name M to Z –

Guidance Secretary: Mary Ellen Callanan  Transcript requests and College visits
Guidance Office Phone: 610-691-2538
Fax: 610-866-9483

College counseling for students begins junior year during the second semester. The counselors meet with each junior and help research schools that might be a “good fit.” At home, students and parents are encouraged to check out schools’ websites that are of interest to the student. The College Board website has an excellent college search engine called College MatchMaker which helps you generate a list of schools that match your preferences – http:/ Also available for college search is the Naviance Guidance Program that every Bethlehem Catholic family has access to view and utilize.

During senior year, the college counselors work closely with students to help with the entire college application process. From college visits to letters of recommendation to actual applications for admissions, the college counselors are available to students to help them with this process.

Common Application

The Common Application (informally known as the Common App) is an undergraduate college admission application that applicants may use to apply to any of 600 member colleges and universities in the United States. Students may fill out one application and send it electronically to multiple educational instituations.
